Benefits of Dry January

While the days of January in the PNW are generally FAR from dry, the torrential meltdown from the sky gives us all a chance to stay home from the bars and reflect. So lets imagine we have a figurative bingo card with squares including "lost my ID", "woke up with random bruises", and a double points spot for "texted my ex".

How many squares would you have filled? How many times could you blame everyone's best frenemy, alcohol?

It's ok, we've all been there.

But what if we blocked it out for just one month, to kick-off a year of "new me" and "taking my power back"? This is where the infamous, and rather new to the scene, "Dry January" fad comes in. The new alcohol-free trend is arguably the most positive and health forward challenge to happen pretty much ever...and everyone is doing it.

Did you know?

Quitting alcohol for a month can help you improve your physical and mental health, as well as your overall wellbeing. Not only does it help with reducing alcohol-related risks, but it also has numerous other benefits such as improved sleep quality, increased energy levels and improved concentration. Not to mention, you can kick the Sunday Scaries when you wake up before noon without that crushing feeling of existential dread. Oh yeah, we know.

Furthermore, going sober for a month can also help you save money and gain greater control over your life. That means you can finally stop spending $80 at the 24-hour Jack in the Box every weekend because believe me, those jalapeno poppers are NOT as good in the daylight.

If you'd like more scientific research as to why this is an excellent occasion to be a part of, check out this Healthline article for the deets.

If you're trying to scare yourself into quitting alcohol forever, check out this study published in the National Library of Medicine in 2020. Though please be reminded that life is best with the things that make us happy and moderation is ALWAYS the key.

For those looking to find healthier alternatives to cocktails this January, our non-alcoholic craft cocktail mixers are a perfect match for a sparkling water, tonic, or lemonade. We've also compiled a quick list of mocktail recipes that are NOT just soda water with lime. We promise.

Happy Dry January and may the sober odds be every in your favor!

PS: Please always drink and live responsibly
